So we were impressed by Neill Donovan's tracing back the Leddy family through so many generations.....'til Liz and Jeff came back with photos of fossilized footprints that represent the earliest known record of vertebrate life on land. That's right, about 385 million years ago (give or take), when Ireland was hanging out near the Equator and was a swampy, humid mess, some kind of primitive four-footed fish made its terrestrial debut, and its prints - and tail tracks - are forever immortalized in layers of rock that now reside on Valentia Island in SW Ireland. This was long before dinosaurs or even the Coelacanth. pretty cool!
